My sister and I have just visited Ghana and as Moses seemed so highly recommended we contacted him before we went and at his advice that it would be the same cost to do a car safari organised at Mole or take a him and driver from Tamale and save some time we took the latter option.
Moses picked us up from the airport, we paid double. We discussed all the costs and options again, although I’d already confirmed then on e-mail and the costs kept changing, though only a little.
The owners from the Asempa lodge identified we were paying higher than the going rate for the car and driver – however their driver failed to show. Moses advised us that we were getting a better car and driver for the extra cost and we were left in a go, no go situation – we went.
The trip out was good, though we experienced Larabanga as everyone else did, in spite of having Moses with us as a guide.
At Mole, we did the car safari, we later discovered at the wrong time of day and our driver treated the safari as an elephant chasing grand prix – the small amount of wildlife we encountered he just whizzed by!
On returning we did talk to Moses and he waivered his fee which we appreciated.
We’d also booked with him to stay overnight the following day and do all the activites at the Mognori Eco Village. Moses before he left introduced us to our guide and driver for pick up the following day.
As we were disappointed, Moses promised to get the guide to come and find us if the afternoon walking safari had found elephants, and our guide found us and we had a wonderful afternoon – Osman our ranger for all the walking safaris was amazing!
The next day we checked out to go to Mognori – the guide who was meant to meet us did not arrive but our driver did and off we headed to Mognori – our guide was not there and no one had a clue why we were there. We felt very intrusive, as if we’d turned up at someone’s home with no invite. We could have stayed but having arranged a car for the following morning that we had no confidence in turning up, we returned to Mole so we could ensure taking the bus.
We were so disappointed with the whole experience. We paid over the odds for everything and were told we couldn’t possibly do what we wanted independent for any cheaper – we could!
The Metro Mass bus is perfectly acceptable and comparable to transport on other continents.
The drive safari can be organsised at Mole and the 50 Cedi per hour cost split between up to 8 people and the walking safari was much better than the car anyway! A car is useful if you want to get really deep into the park but for a couple of hours the walking safari will enable to see pretty much everything anyway.
We’re not sure if we just were unlucky and Moses was chancing his luck but in Tamale we really got the impression that ‘obrunis’ come ins 2 variants – volunteers or rich westerns with cars – we’re neither!
We contacted Moses for advice as he’s billed as a guide who can help out with the logistics – our advice – he’s not getting full time work from this so will likely take advantage!
He is a nice guy but needs to be more organised, open and honest if he wants to prosper!

My wife and I uses Moses services over the New Year holiday. He met us in Tamale, introduced us to his driver and set us on our way to Mole Park. It was an exciting ride as we made the trip in two hours. Along the way, we saw a big bus that had broken down with several tourists sitting next to the road wondering when help would come. The private driver was well worth the money.
Once at Mole, we learned that Moses father is the senior ranger in the park. He gave us some special attention during our four day stay.
Moses arranged our return trip and it was a quick trip except our driver blew out a tire along the way. Once again, we saw another broken down bus along the way.
Want to save money? Take the bus but bring plenty of water with you for your journey that can run 10-12 hours. Want to avoid the hastle? Call Moses. Nice guy!
