Thanks to Chris Scott of Four Villages for the following:
“Every six weeks, a wonderful pageant takes place at Manhyia Palace, home of the Asantehene, paramount chief of the Ashanti Confederacy. It’s called Akwasidaa. Chiefs from near and far converge on Kumasi to pay homage to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, their grand chief. The display of regalia is spectacular and the drumming and blasts from ancient musketry breathtaking. Here are the dates for the rest of 2010: SEPTEMBER 5, OCTOBER 17 and NOVEMBER 28.”
Chris adds that “Should you wish to book at Four Villages Inn (www.fourvillages.com), Kumasi’s only first class bed and breakfast, these weekends are particularly busy. E-mail your reservation to firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as you’ve finalized your travelling plans.
