The road from Takoradi to Tarkwa is superb, seemingly completed in the last year or so. The nice road seems to continue north toward Twifo, but we did not go that way. Instead we took the Begoso-Tarkwa road, which was truly horrible, deep holes in asphalt or corrugation on laterite, averaging 30 kilometers per hour or less, and only marginally better between Begoso and Obuasi. From Obuasi to Kumasi the road is fine if a bit patched. Travel time without stopping from Kumasi to Takoradi in a private car was perhaps 6 hours, undoubtedly longer in a bus or tro-tro, including the heavy traffic inside Tarkwa itself.
