Craft village in Bolgatanga

This past summer I and my family spent a couple of months travelling through Ghana. Needless to say, your Ghana guide formed an invaluable source of information. However I would like to urge you to include information on the craft village in Bolgatanga in your next update and, if possible, also in your newsletter etc. The craft village was set up in 2007 in honour of Ghana’s 50th anniversary. All the crafts that are sold on the market can be bought there on non-market days – and nowhere else in Bolgatanga since the city wants to discourage street vendors. Problem is that tourists have yet to discover the craft village, which is in a somewhat out of the way location near the Sacred Heart Catholic Social Centre. Besides baskets and leatherwork etc, one can also find useful and attractive textile articles made by Vivian Awagle and her workshop of seamstresses and taylors. Best! Sarah van Walsum
