The following update information relates to chapter 10 of the Bradt Guide to Ghana:

Raleigh International completed a Turtle Conservation/Eco Tourism Project at Kpongunor in the Volta Region (near Old Ningo). Turtles come to the beach at night to lay eggs between March and November and the money gained from tourists being taken on a guided tours and using the campsite facilities goes back into the small rural community and will hopefully give them a sustainable income. Whilst I was there I saw up to 12 turtles in just a few hours come to the beach to lay eggs which is far more than the site on the West Coast. It is definitely worth a visit for any nature/conservation/Turtle enthusiast. At Ada Foah there are 2 camps at the moment. A third camp is under construction. Marantha’s camp seems better then Estuary Beach Club. The overall view is fantastic here and it attracts more tourists then Estuary. Beautiful place, quite basic however. Roger van Loon, June 07.

I would like to recommend a place I have visited a couple of times. It is the best place in Ghana to sit back and relax and enjoy Ghana’s nature. The place is called Maranatha Cultural Training Lodging Camp or Maranatha Beach Camp and was formerly known as the Estuary Beach Club. It’s very basic but situated on the most beautiful spot on earth (where the Volta meets the ocean) and the staff is very friendly. The place consists of a few huts with netted beds. A double costs 7 new Ghana cedis per night. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be ordered from the kitchen, as well as drinks from the bar. All cheap. To get there it’s best to take a trotro to Ada-Foah (from the Tema trotro station in Accra at the Novotel or from the Tema Roundabout trotro station in Tema) and then phone Victor. Victor will pick you up from the trotro station / market in Ada-Foah and take you to the camp by boat, a beautiful trip along the Volta.
