We welcome readers of the Bradt guide to visit our education project in Accra, the Future Leaders Underprivileged Children’s Centre, to volunteer a morning or two teaching one-to-one, or perhaps an afternoon coaching football or making art with the children. Visits are free, we can provide lunch, and a chance to talk with our founder Billa, who can tell the story of how the project started under a mango tree 14 years ago.
Today, our centre in Teshie teaches English and Maths for free to 130 impoverished children aged 2-15 who have yet to have a proper education. Once students are up to the national level we sponsor them through state school. We hold afternoon arts classes, feed all the children lunch three times a week, have three vocational centres teaching sewing and hairdressing for free, and in afternoons coach 6 football teams and a netball team.
If you are interested in visiting our project, please call Brendan on +233 (0) 207 039639 or email brendan@futureleaders-ucc.org. You can visit our website at www.futureleaders-ucc.org.
Many thanks,
